It really is a past-time for me. I love seeing the different designs out there. Ever since attending the converted school bus church of Jocko, my eyes have been opened to possibilities beyond the reciprocal piston engine layout.

So when I come across things like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , my jimmies are, naturally, rustled.

Kinja'd!!!

So let’s dig in a little, shall we?

This thing is, at its most basic, a reverse Wankel. A Wankel rotary engine has a dorito-shaped rotor spinning all mad inside a peanut-shaped chamber. All that mad spinning makes power thru combustication and dark arts of some sort.

This new doohickey has a peanut-shaped (or, well, more jellybean-shaped, really) rotor going to town inside a dorito-shaped chamber, and supposedly its like, way better. Which is cool, and it even runs, as their dyno videos show. Yay!

But every true Jalop knows that the one weakness of the dorito-rotored madman that is a Wankel rotary is the accursed apex seals. (Quick, spit that word out of your mouth! pheh! pheh! ) Well, guess what, folks? This guy here... yup, he carries the curse. Only his apex seals ( pheh! pheh! ) are not attached to the spinny bits, but nestled within the housing, putting pressure on that dancing peanut (er, jellybean).

So, should be interesting to see how the future of this design pans out.

I think you mean that a Wankel engine consumes apex seals and outputs wooshing sounds.

There's a great image of that, which I can no longer find.

yup still has apex seals :/ maybe being in the block will mean they can be larger/flexier/stronger/cooler/better-lubed? In any case, I think this thing's real trick is the axial combustion flow. Thats just neat!

I think the neat thing is how it cherry picks parts of other automotive thermodynamic cycles.

Also here's the wankel on steroids; fuck those apex seals

Odd, it's engine stuff, i promise. No actual porn.

oh yeah, what do they call that thing...? the quasi-turbine or something equally semantically incorrect, not to mention all that rotational mass! heh, no flywheel needed I guess

yep, its the quasiturbine.

I'm a bit of a weird engine nerd. Some crazy bastard on an RC forum I used to frequent made a square-piston engine that ran on glow fuel instead of steam. the bastard even flew it!

sadly, no, the forum dissolved and re-formed and all the old content went away. I keep Google searching every once in a while hoping to come across another reference to it and his old quicktime videos of it in operation... nothing yet. I think the guy who built it is dead now :/
